We, as residents of Wyndham and surrounds, need to be safe in our homes and safe on our streets.
Wyndham police are facing extreme pressure by the demands placed on them by a growing population.
Wyndham is one of the fastest growing local government areas in Victoria and indeed the whole of Australia, with the population forecast to increase by over 207,744 people (91.08% growth) between 2016 and 2036. In particular, the suburbs of Wyndham Vale, Tarneit, Point Cook and Werribee will see the most change.
Police in the area are under-resourced to meet current demands, with the police-to- population ratio in Wyndham lagging well behind the rest of the state.
This has caused a number of negative consequences for public safety in our community.
A new police station in Point Cook is needed not only to ensure local response needs are met, but also to ensure that the police are well positioned to meet the future needs of the growing community.
Mr Wayne Gatt, secretary of the Police Association of Victoria, agrees.
We hereby call on the Victorian State Government and Victoria Police to cooperate to build a police station in Point Cook and to bring the police-to- population ratio in Wyndham up to the required level, as a matter of urgent priority.
